Supporting IJM Through the Freedom Collection
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news: thanks to everyone who has purchased jewellery from my Freedom Collection, I’ve been able to donate £4178 to International Justice Mission! Through Big Give match funding campaign, this amount will be doubled to an incredible £8356, helping IJM continue their vital work in preventing exploitation, rescuing victims, and restoring lives.
This donation wouldn’t have been possible without your support. Every purchase from the Freedom Collection has contributed to this milestone, building on the £3194 already raised for other anti-human trafficking charities since the collection launched in 2021. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the fight against trafficking.
The Story Behind the Freedom Collection
The Freedom Collection is deeply personal to me. It began in 2008 when I started crafting rings for women rescued from human trafficking - symbols of their worth and resilience. Over time, it has grown to include necklaces, bangles, and earrings, each designed to remind the wearer of their intrinsic value and freedom.
At the heart of the collection is my commitment to donate 10% of the price of each piece to charity. Every piece we handcraft here in Shetland carries a message of hope and change to those who need it most around the world.
Why I Support IJM
I support International Justice Mission (IJM) because their ethos aligns with mine. At their core, IJM is a Christian charity living out faith in action, seamlessly intertwining belief and compassion to bring light into the darkest situations. Their holistic approach deeply resonates with me.
They don’t just rescue victims - they work with police and governments to strengthen justice systems, hold perpetrators accountable, and walk with survivors through rehabilitation, helping them rebuild their lives with dignity. IJM also responds swiftly to global crises, like the war in Ukraine, where they’ve protected displaced people vulnerable to trafficking.
Traffickers are shrewd, organised, and ruthless, but IJM meets them with expertise, courage, and an unrelenting commitment to protecting those at risk. Knowing that each piece in the Freedom Collection contributes to this incredible work is an honour.
Making a Difference Together
To everyone who has purchased a piece from my Freedom Collection, thank you. Your support not only reminds your loved ones - and yourself - of how precious and free we are but also contributes directly to restoring freedom and hope for others.
With this level of donation, IJM can:
Fund operations with police to bring women, children, and men to safety from trafficking and abuse.
Help 40 women or children begin their healing journeys with counselling and urgent medical care.
Together, we are transforming lives.
Kind Words of Gratitude
Rachel Strawbridge, Shetland IJM Champion and Spokesperson, shared her gratitude:
"I’m so delighted to accept this amazing donation from Karlin Anderson Jewellery Design for International Justice Mission. Karlin’s story of using the skills she has at hand to contribute to global justice is so inspiring, and my hope is that more folk living in or visiting Shetland will continue to hear about the work of IJM. On behalf of IJM, we want to say THANK YOU!"
The Symbolism of the Freedom Collection
The Freedom Collection is rich in meaning, drawing inspiration from themes of restoration, resilience, and hope:
Silver and gold reflect the Bible passage, “The silver is mine, and the gold is mine,” a promise of care and provision from a higher power.
Twelve gemstones represent the biblical tribes who rebuilt their lives after escaping slavery, symbolising that each of us has a voice deserving to be heard.
Hammered finishes add strength and character, allowing the jewellery to reflect light in unique ways. The blows we endure may shape us, but they do not diminish our value.
Each piece is crafted using ethically and sustainably sourced materials, honouring both people and the planet.
How You Can Help
Mark Cameron, IJM Scotland Lead, explained IJM’s mission and impact:
“International Justice Mission works with police, local justice systems, and partners to bring abused and trafficked women, children, and men to safety; ensure traffickers are held to account; help survivors heal through trauma-informed care; and work with local communities to protect women, children, and men from ever being abused. We’ve seen trafficking decrease by up to 86% in places where we’ve worked.”
